I LOVE LITTLE ELVES

2-22-10 1

Being married is sometimes* like living with little elves.  I notice sometimes* that little things around the house will magically get done.  I'm sure that's it's because of the husband and not little elves.  But one can dream.

For instance, I decided to try and take photos on the back porch.  As I peered out the window, I was crossing my fingers that the snow would be melted.  Not so much.  However, there was a perfect little shoveled pathway.

My first thought was "oh, how'd that get there?"  Followed by, "those little elves..."

Then, I remembered that the recycling had to go out, so the path was really a necessity and not a lovely gesture to ease the picture taking.

This outfit walks that fine line between cute and cowgirl.  I'm hoping to be a little less on the cowgirl side, but I couldn't resist wearing the last of my 30¢ Goodwill purchases from a couple of weeks ago: a little boys Wrangler shirt, complete with pearly snaps and all.  Giddy up.

Shirt: Thrifted, 30¢ - Belt: Thrifted, $1 - Skirt: Charlotte Russe, $5 - Boots: Target, $35

*I want to stress that this is only SOMEtimes, because OTHER times,
a girl has to ask until she's blue in face.  Love you, honey!

EDIT:  Someone just made a really great point.  SOMEtimes the little elves do not so helpful things, too.  So, beware the little elves!

  11. I love those "little elves"! BTW - Brilliant idea to grab that shirt from the boy's section and $.30...clearly my Goodwill is jacking up their prices.

  12. I like when the elves clean the bathtub or toilet! ;-) and this is not cowgirl, if you were in cowboyish boots that would have done it.

  13. Hahaha my darling little house elf does the complete opposite and makes magical messes appear out of thin air. It's a talent of his.

This is a great look. I really love that skirt, and it's awesome you can still wear it in the Winter! Hope you aren't freezing your tush off.

  23. Love your bangs swept to the side. Little something different but totally looks awesome on you :) Your outfit looks gorgeous. Kyla, I really mention that coming to your blog makes me ridiculously happy. Knowing that what I think of your outfit, matters. You actually read it and approve it and and.. I just love being a part of your day. You're always a part of mine :p

  24. This is such a funny post. My little elf likes to put away my things in the totally wrong places! Ha!! You look totally cute in this outfit!

  25. Your skirt and belt look like they were made for each other! I definitely didn't get a cowgirl vibe either, just Southwestern chic (probably because of the pattern on the skirt). So cute!

  26. Haha love the little husband/elf story. And i ADORE that belt (pretty sure i've said that before lol)

  27. I love the little elf niceties that sometimes occur... and sometimes they leave messes. :)

I thought to myself, what a cute cowgirlish outfit... it isn't too over done and I like it! :)

  28. Wow. I love everything about your outfit!

  29. I didn't see cowboy at all when I saw the skirt. The outfit is LOVELY, and I absolutely love the boots with it.

  30. I love your shirt and skirt. And you must have a more awesome Goodwill than I do --- most articles of clothing are around $5, unless there's a half-off sale. Can't believe you score that shirt for 30 cents.

I totally love the little elves in my life -- the ones that do the dishes and take out the trash, especially. Loved this post!

  31. Oooh. This is really pretty. I love a good skirt, and that belt is just too perfect!

    I want that outfit!

  32. I love that skirt!! Especially with the belt, it's aweseome! Meanwhile your Hubby should speak to mine, as someone who didn't grow up in the states he's convinced that the need to shovel snow is a lie propagated my the media. lol

  33. I wish my not so little elf would start in the list I gave him.

  34. I've been really feeling the cowgirl look lately (that could just be because of our December production of Oklahoma but whatever) and this is one of the best versions of it I've seen out there!

I'm really pretty amazed at the cheapness of your Goodwill. At my Sally's I would have paid a whole $3 for that shirt!

I also want to second someone else's comment about your being such a supportive blogger. Not only do I find lots of inspiration from your blog, but the support that you give me on a nearly daily basis really make me smile. You're a wonderful blog friend and I really appreciate that.

  35. LOVE! I wouldn't have thought cowgirl until you said it, I think it's more girly with the pretty skirt!

  36. This outfit is really cool! That skirt is awesome!
Your hair looks really cute- i have been "curling" my hair in waves lately- i love beach hair!

  37. i know EXACTLY what you mean about the elves. i've got a few teams of them in my own house. sometimes, though, they make mischief, and other times, they do simply nothing and it's like those elves don't really exist.
    i love elves. :)

  38. Your hair looks really good like this. I like the bangs to the side thing.

  39. I love the cowgirl vibe this has! Both pieces are very col and still loving the hair!

  40. ok, this outfit is awesome!!!it is so body flattering and i love it when girls dress for their body type! you nailed it girl! your waist looks teeeeeny! and this skirt is just sooo cute. and, yay for elves! :)

  41. I love that skirt! and the boots!!I think this is less cowgirl than you think :)

Is there anyway that your little elves could have a chat with my little elves? I think they might be a different breed or something. Because mine like to magically put random things around my apartment for me to baffle over.

    ReplyDelete
  42. well I'm biased because I love everything cowgirl, but seriously this outfit is so sweet! the shirt is great (since it's white it's not too much in the cowgirl department), and the non-western boots keep it from being too costumey. also, your hair looks so cute all wavy like with the bangs swept to the side! oh and finally... your little elves sound awesome! mine leave popsicle wrappers and empty containers around my house for me to clean up... but they also sometimes surprise me with an unexpected cooked dinner or cleaned bathroom so I guess it's all about balance :)

  43. You look so cute! That skirt is awesome!
