SLICK CHICK
The word "slick" always comes to mind when I feel buttoned-up, yet street chic. I guess that's how I felt today. And seeing how I ended up having to work on my only day off (hmph), it's a good thing I felt so "slick." Oh, yeah ... the 50° and sunshine didn't hurt.
I took this outfit for a trial spin during my 2 hours of work yesterday and decided it was worthy of a full day of wear today. I often times use Saturday and Sunday to try out some new styles. It makes getting dressed so much easier during the week when I have something in mind already. Of course, the reverse it true, too - weekends are great days to repeat previous favorites :)
I painted on the red lips again today. A couple of years ago, I wore them ALL the time. Now that I'm revisiting them, I'm falling in love all over again. For those of you who asked, this is a Revlon formula in Certainly Red. I'm really picky about lipstick, and I LOVE this stuff!
Even though I had to work, I still had a fantastic Monday. Hope you can say the same!
Blazer: JCP, $25 again! - Button-down: Bitten, $10 - Cargos: Gap, $20ish - Scarf: old! - Shoes: Steve Madden via Ross, $17
RAMBLINGS OF A MONDAY AFTERNOON
Just another manic Monday...
1. I'm working on my one "day off." I know, right?
2. I made some ridiculously yummy chili last night. I totally made it up and didn't measure a thing! Crushed tomatoes, onion, garlic, 2 can diced tomatoes, 1 can each of garbanzo beans, black beans, kidney beans, and white beans, chili powder, cumin, curry, 3 mushroom veggie burgers (smushed up into tiny pieces) and some brown sugar and sweetener/sugar. Threw it all in the crock pot and cooked it 'til it was hot. And, baby ... it was hot!
3. I thoroughly enjoyed the Academy Awards last night. It's probably one of my most favorite nights of television ever!
4. It's in the fifties today! And yesterday! And for the rest of the week! Yeeeeeehaw!
5. We took Iggy to the pet store to get Greenies this weekend. Those things are like crack for little dogs. It's unbelievable what he'll do for one!

OH, FRIDAY
Oh, dear. Today was just one of those days where time was not on my side. I thought I would get up and get to work earlier today, so that I could be done earlier. But, instead, I just ended up with more work and ended up finishing at the same time. Hmph. Oh, well ... it's money, right?
Check out that sunshine! It was a bit brisk, but that golden light felt so good. I'm always amazed at how warm 40° feels in March and how cold it feels in September. I guess it's all about perspective.
Fair warning - this trench is about to get a LOT of wear. I have visions of it paired with trousers and skirts and shorts, oh my! How have I survived all these years without one?!
Hope you all have a fantastically spring-like weekend!

THREE FOR THURSDAY
Okay, so Thursday is almost over, but I'm going to milk it for a little alliteration.
Anywho, as I was posting some looks on Chictopia and such, I noticed that I wore my black JCP blazer three times this past week! How's that for makin' the post of your wears?
HELLOOOOOO, FORTIES!
Oh, it's sunny and in the 40's today! So refreshing and lovely!
Now that the obligatory weather comment is out of the way, here's some slice of life for you. The following conversation happened in our house this morning:
Me: (Note: I had my black-rimmed glasses on at the time.) Does this look okay?
(not that I had any intention of changing - I just like to ask.)
John: Yeah, it's cool. You kind of look like a dork, though.
Me: (silent scrunchy face reply)
John: It looks cool ... like Elvis Costello.
Me: (super scrunchy face) Uuuhhh...
Now, pay attention, kids. This is better than Aesop...
Moral of the story:
1. Do not tell your girlfriend, wife or significant other that she looks like a dork, even if she does.
2. Don't back pedal and try to make it better by then telling her she looks like Elvis Costello.
Period.
Blazer: JCP, $25 - T-shirt: Target, $13 - Skirt: JCP, $11 - Boots: Target, $35
Just for the record, I left the glasses on - just didn't photograph them. And no husbands were hurt in the making of this story, but he's lucky I love him. And in his defense, he does love Elvis Costello quite a bit, so I guess it could've been a compliment.

CHUCK DAY
When I was in eighth grade, I had a teacher who called days like today "Chuck Day." Apparently, one of her former students (named Chuck, of course) could never remember if the month or the day came first when writing the date. On a day like today, he didn't have to worry about - 3/3/10. So, every month, when the day and the month had the same number, she would proclaim it "Chuck Day."
Again, more pictures after work! We're getting there!
The only downfall is that I had an exhausting day, so I'm not feeling quite as cute as I did this morning. Of course, now I'm in my flannel and giant lounge pants. Just the way I like it!
Pants: thrifted and DIY, $.30 - Sweater: BMoss, $7ish - Scarf: old! - Shoes: Target.com, $25 - Belt: vintage
