THE SUMMER PART OF SPRING

4-6-10 1

Central PA seems to lack a little in the transitional seasons department.  I swear every spring it's the same: cold and rainy, hot and humid, then cold and rainy.  We generally get only a handful of blissfully sunshine-filled, just moderately warm days.  Though, truly - I love it hot, so bring it on!

Today, we're into the summer part of spring - 80° and rather humid.  So, I'm going to live it up while I can, because this weekend will be back to cold and rainy.  Boo!

As I was perusing my closet last night, I started to realize some of the dressing challenges that I'll be faced with this summer.  Over the winter, the big challenge was no denim on workdays.  And I gotta say, I think I managed quite well.  Now, my summer challenges will be dressing slightly more modest and business casual appropriate.

Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not exactly a hoochie mama by any means, but I do like a deep-v tee and a tank top - both of which I deem slightly too revealing for my work these days.  I don't work in an office - it's much more of a service position, facilitating group discussions.  If I was in air-conditioning all day, it wouldn't really matter, but on Tuesdays especially, I'm in out and lugging a lot of stuff, so I gotta stay cool.  At my previous job, I really didn't care - and honestly, it didn't matter. I could have worn sweats everyday if I wanted to.  And believe it or not, other girls did - GASP!

ANYWAY, that will be the challenge this year.  So far, I think this sleeveless jacket is doing wonders in solving the tank top issue.  I still get that indication of a fitted top with a little something extra for comfort and coverage.  And maybe even a little more style?  Whatta ya think?

In other news, I got a fun new toy for my hair.  And I LOVE it!  Stay tuned to find out more about it and how you can get one, too!

  1. Love the vest and I think it will be great to make any top work appropriate (well almost any top - no midrifs :-)

  2. It's tough to do the season transitions in the workplace. In the summer we go EXTREMELY casual - flip flops, shorts, tank tops...I think anything goes except halters and strapless stuff.

However, once the summer's over we go back to business casual which is such a bummer. I can totally relate!

  3. I gotta say, I'm hating on your because of your waist...so tiny. And those pipes...wow!

    If it's a bumpit, I'll laugh hysterically.

  4. I love the vest as well! I have a little bit of the same problem during the summer - I want to wear summery clothes, but the A/C in the office makes it freezing, so I compensate with short-sleeve cardigans and jackets that are easy layering pieces. Can't wait to see all the outfits that get created with the vest! And love the necklace!

  5. That fringe bib is such fun! Looking forward to your summer challenge - lugging stuff around outdoors has got to make for serious style roadblocks. But if anyone can do it, you can, doll!

  9. I love how you covered up that tank with the sleeveless jacket, it's so cute! I always had a hard time picking work outfits when it got warm. If the AC is on, you freeze, and if it isn't, you roast. So tricky, but you look like you're handling it well!

  10. Every time your wear this vest I covet it. You have been looking so effortlessly COOL lately. I'm sure you'll be able to keep it up even when it's stupidly hot.

  12. I was just thinking the same thing about our autumn. It's been pretty good but tomorrow it's back to 30+ for a few days. DO NOT WANT!

I can't wait to see the solutions you come up with. Besides, doesn't a challenge make the whole thing more fun? ;)

  16. i agree, these transition 'seasons' are SO hard to dress for! i think we have the same weather issues in nyc. but you are pulling it off with flying colors- i love how you're working the drawstring pants and making them look more dressy. and that jacket is definitely going to be versatile all spring and summer- love it! ~joelle

  17. I love this outfit - so cool, but stylish :) I work from home, so my main issue is convincing myself not to just slob around all day, but I think the sleeveless jacket is just perfect!
