RAMBLINGS OF A MONDAY AFTERNOON

It's that time again!

1.  I ran another 5K this weekend.  It was Friday night, which if you were in PA was a brutally rainy night.  Believe it or not, the rain let up just before the race and didn't start again until the last person crossed the finish line.  It made for wet roads and some seriously humid air, but it was a great time - and certainly better than rain!  I finished 2 minutes faster than my NYE race, and then went back to support a friend who was walking it.  not one minute after we finished, the sky opened up and buckets and buckets of rain poured down!

2.  Okay, I have pretty serious addiction to Friday Night Lights.  Since I had a lot of invitations to put together this weekend, I spent hours in front of the TV, folding, gluing and tying the most perfect little bows.  I find that the show captures me somewhere between "cougar-town" and "jail bait," because I'm equally in love with both the 17-year old Tim Riggins and the 30-something Coach Taylor.  Not watching?  You don't know what you're missing!

3.  You may or may not have noticed that my NY's Resolution to try a new recipe every week has fizzled a bit.  I assure you, it's not completely dead, though.  I'm just not adhering to any recipes, so it makes recollecting the new concoctions a little tricky.  I've been doing a lot of stir fry - which is different every single time.  It's basically just a lot of veggies and shrimp thrown in a pan with a little sauce.  The other thing I made last week was a white bean dip.  I just pureed a can of white beans with garlic, olive oil and parsley.  Used as a veggie dip, it helped to up my five-a-day intake.

4.  I had to walk in hail this weekend.  It sucked.

5.  For those who were curious, the skirt I wore on Thursday was made using this pattern.  It was very easy and I don't think I made any modifications (shocking!).  After a tip from a friend, I submitted that outfit to the NY Times Online Fashion & Style section.  You can see the slide show here!

Hope you're having a sunny start to a fresh new week!

  2. Congrats on your run! I've built my mileage up to 2.5 miles, but the idea of a race still terrifies me. And I keep meaning to get into FNL, I've heard it's great. Let you know if I do!

  3. I'm training for my first 5K in July, and prior to this, I was NOT a runner at all. I'm nervous about it as well!

Super job on shortening your race time!

  6. TIm Riggins and Eric Taylor are the hottest me EVER! Okay, maybe not ever, but pretty bloody close. Well chosen crushes, Kyla. I'm also addicted to FNL, though not having a tv makes it hard to watch, given that I have to dig around and find bootleg versions of it online. Should I not have admitted that? Yep, I'm a FNL thief!

    Congrats on the 5K!

I tried the black bean brownies that you mentioned a few weeks ago- they are quite yummy. Tonight I'll pair them with strawberries and lite cool whip
