CHANGING DIRECTIONS

7-8-10 1

Ah, I think I'm finally coming out of my funk.  So much so that I'm starting to look at my closet with a very discerning eye.  I'm feeling a wave of change taking over my style - I just haven't quite caught onto it yet.  Do you know what I mean?  I really want my closet to be filled with special pieces, because those make me happiest.  Now, I just need to allow myself to part with the rest.

Last summer's looks were all about flowing dresses and lightweight jersey.  This summer, I'm craving so much more - like unique shapes, lots of patterns and slightly richer-looking fabrics.  It's amazing the difference a year can make.

It's also amazing the difference 90 degrees can make.  For once, I'm not referring to the thermometer -  check out the gorgeous glow of these photos, taken last evening about 7:30 facing east.

And check out the difference a mere 90 degree shift can make.  These are facing south.  I love the silhouetted quality they take on - not great for detail, but check out that sky!

Being a style blog and all, here's a little obligatory commentary on the clothes.  I wore this dress so many times throughout the fall, winter and spring.  I thought for sure I would be wearing it to pieces this summer, yet I think this is it's first foray this season.  But what a debut!  This may be one of my favorite outfits!  And check out those awesome shoes I got with credit (i.e. FREESIES!) from Gilt Groupe.  Does it get any better?

  1. I'm getting bored with my closet, too, and want to shop shop shop! I just keep holding on to things because I think that maybe, just maybe I'll wear them more. Even though that hardly ever happens! I love this vest with the girly dress. Cute combo!

  4. It's really excellent when you leave a well-beloved item of clothing alone for a little while. Then when you return to it, it's like falling in love all over again!

I totally know what you mean! I was cleaning out my closet yesterday and tossed a couple of tops that I'd been holding onto just because they fit, but they were so damn BORING they just had to go, since I never felt compelled to wear them!

  6. Super cute and summery outfit, love it! I love your shoes too.

I love your updo even more! Would it be possible to request a how to/tutorial for your updo? I really like it! =)

(not sure I have as much hair as you do so I don't know if it would turn out as nice on me)

  7. I have to know how you do your hair! In every post it seems you have a new, interesting hairstyle. Even the side-braid style is just a little different. I have straight brown hair that falls a few inches past my shoulders, and I can NEVER get it to stay in anything like the styles I see you pull off. Pllleeeeease share your secret!

  8. It's interesting how a lot of bloggers are going through the same thing..I think it's the fact that summer is almost over because the same thing happens to me every year around this time. Thank God the fashion world is in constant change!

  10. Oh I just love floral with army green. It is a deep down, permanent favourite of mine. It reminds me of high school and for some reason, I idealise that as my favourite fashion style. Give me a pair of torn jeans, docs, flannelette, thrifted dress and a cardigan and I am good to go.

I can't wait to see where your new style takes you!

  14. Oh that is such an awesome outfit. I like the military style combined with the floral. It's a nice tough. Feminine yet some masculine touch interwined.
