THE RUNAROUND

11-4-09 1

I chose to do a lot of things between 7:30 and 9:00 this morning and never actually hit the shower until 8:30.  Oopsie!  Needless to say, we were running around like crazy to get out of the house on time.

As if that wasn't bad enough, I hadn't prepared my wardrobe for the day and had not a clue what to wear.  I knew at some point, I wanted to pair this blazer with this dress.  Even though I just wore the dress on Monday, it was fresh in my mind, so I gave it a whirl today.

I LOVE the results.  I have to admit that I think I like it better in the pictures than real life, but either way, it proved to be a great pairing.

11-4-09 4

I literally used EVERY SINGLE second of my morning, including the 5 minutes that I had between dropping the husband off at his coworker's place and getting to work across the street.  So, I pulled over and snapped some pictures next to the dog park.  It was a little chilly, but totally worth it.

Funny thing happened at work today.  Well not as funny as it was stinky, but anyway ...

I completely scorched a bag of popcorn in the microwave (it's old school and only has a dial with no numbers, so setting it for 1 min. 45 sec. is pretty much a crap shoot).  Well, few things smell worse than burned popcorn, so I immediately took it out to the dumpster and locked myself out in the process.  Soooo, I had to walk around the entire building to get back in and oh, my ... the smell.  Soooo, I used the Glade air freshener spray from the bathroom to try to dispel the burny smell.  Not so successful.  I ended up with the most overwhelming odor rather reminiscent of my grandmother's bathroom.

Luckily, I was the only one there, so no one else had to be subjected to my ridiculousness.  More importantly, there were no witnesses...

Dress: Fred Flare, $40 - Velvet Blazer: NY&Co, $21 - Turtleneck: Kohl's, $2 - Tights: TJMaxx, $7 (also my Halloween tights! - price per wear = $3.50) - Socks: Target, $6 - Boots: Kohl's, $16

  1. It's little house on the prairie Kyla, how cute! Love the blazer...NY&Co, you say? Hmmm...

Ugh, my downstairs neighbor burned a bag of popcorn last night. It smelled so bad that it woke me up and I am NOT a light sleeper.

  2. You look quite equestrian...I love the look. Boots, socks, patterned tights, tailored blazer - It all works well together.

  3. This is gorgeous, as Karen said, looks like you're about to jump on a horse. Oh how I miss horse-riding.
Thanks for the shout out. I'm glad you liked it, I loved creating it. I'm a bit limited with my resources at the mo in terms of layout.. but once I get the net at home & my mac worked out.. there will be no stopping me!
Anyway, enough about mwoi, your popcorn story sounds hilarious! Lucky we have things like blogs to share these little occurences when there are no witnesses. Hehe.
    Have a great day!

  5. HAAAA! That is funny. At my last job, that happened twice to the maintenance guys decided to "confiscate" the microwave. When I tried to calm everyone down, I suggested I give them a call and explain that we would be very careful from now on, to which the resident Dwight type screams "You don't understand, a microwave if a privilege!!".

  6. Oh no! I haate the smell of burnt popcorn-- once in middle school, I accidentally threw a package of easy mac in the microwave, forgetting to put the water in! Few things in my life have ever smelled worse :P Luckily it killed my taste for easy mac forever, which is a good thing in the long run.
I agree with the consensus that you look equestrian (maybe it's that the dog park looks like the outside of a stable?) Fantastic look!

  8. I love how you're using these subdued, more neutral tones to compliment that gorgeous dress. This might be one of my favorite outfits ever, Kyla!

  9. Kyla, this is so chic! You look lovely. I love how there's hints of black throughout, but it's not a heavily dark look. That dress is freaking rockin, and looks so great paired with the tights/thigh high socks combo.

Since you always make the socks & tights look so awesome, I've started doing it! I'm getting tons of compliments, so glad I started reading these fashion blogs =)

  13. Love the outfit! We set popcorn on fire in the microwave at school one time (also an old dial controlled one). There was so much smoke in the common room we ended up dropping the burnt package out of the window into a bin in the quad below to try not to set off the fire alarm!

  15. Really love this look. It's so now but timeless at the same time. And that velvet jacket is so yummy!

You're lucky that your microwave mishaps happen when you're alone. I can't tell you the number of times I've started a fire or burned something in kitchen when there were plenty of witnesses!

Anyway this outfit looks gorgeous on you, love the colors. Everytime you wear this blazer it reminds me that I have almost the exact some one and that I should really find new ways to wear it like you do.
