Okay ... I think this new idea of pants as a style statement is changing my life a little. Not too long ago, I would have laughed in the face of anyone merely suggesting I wear a pair of low rise, pleated trousers with a gathered ankle! Are you kidding me?!
But opening my mind a little and stepping out of my comfort zone is really paying off. So far this spring, I've donned giant Asian-inspired balloon pants, high-waisted khakis, high-waisted wool trousers and now these. I can't get enough! They are so. Much. Fun. I love anything that adds a little something different - like a new silhouette or shape - without being too laborious. I mean, let's be honest - if it ain't comfy, I ain't wearin' it!
Since I was feeling so daring, I paired these bad boys with a cropped tunic. I thrifted this last spring for about $3 and wore it once. It looked really cool as a knee-length tunic, but I knew I wouldn't get much wear out of it - I couldn't stand the fabric sticking to my butt! So, a couple of weeks ago, I pulled it out from the depths of my closet and played around with it a little. Once I folded the bottom under, I instantly knew I had found it's reincarnation! I lopped about 12" off and couldn't be happier with the outcome. Now, I'm sure to get a ton of wear out of it this summer. I wonder if I'll ever wear it without this awesome necklace, though...
Tunic: Thrifted and cropped, $4 - Necklace: Charlotte Russe, $8 - Pants: Worthington by JCPenney
Trench: Old Navy, $35 - Sandals: Kenneth Cole Reaction via 6pm.com, $40ish
At first I thought the necklace was part of the shirt's embroidery! They go together nicely. :)
ReplyDeleteThey look fantastic. I love how individual your style is.

I thought the necklace was a part of the top until you pointed it out, so I kind of hope you always wear them together!~
ReplyDeleteOMG, I didnt even notice that was a necklace until I read all the comments and had to go back and look. It goes so perfectly with that top (which is beautiful btw)!

ReplyDeleteLove this! So cool. Pants are awesome. Sometimes I get tired of seeing everyone and their mother wearing dress, this is so refreshing.
ReplyDeleteQuestion, did you alter these pants to fit so nicely, or does Worthington have harem-ish pants? I'm on a quest to find flattering harem pants.
I totally love the ethnic, laid-back vibe of this outfit! I looooove the black with the gold accessories!! I've always hated the idea of sacrificing comfort for fashion. But you totally prove you can be comfy AND chic!! You rock. :)

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you've started to explore pants, because you've had some truly inspired outfits with them. I LOVE that embroidered top!
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely fantastic outfit! You look so comfortable in that silhouette that it's hard to believe it's the first time you've rocked it. And rocked it well I must say.
ReplyDeleteThat necklace is just perfect for the tunic. Before you mentioned that it was actually a necklace I had scrolled up and down and peered a few times to try and figure out if it was part of it.
Love the whole thing.
Ummm really?!?! You always evoke jealousy within me... haha. I'm dying over those pants! Totally hippie chic in this! You look great!

Haha, so I'm absent mindedly talking to Matt as I open your page and in the middle of my conversation I say 'Oh F! I love that shirt!' Haha, the poor boy is confused.... but really, I love it.
ReplyDeleteI can't get enough of the trench, but also adore that shirt and necklace.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks fantastic here too. I'm jealous.
This outfit is fantastic! I love how you're branching out and playing with clothing shapes... you're braver than I, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI love your pants and your necklace! Pants are a bit of a style revelation for me too this season. Before, they were basically my "I give up" go-to... now they can really be the style setting part of the outfit!
