I've been giving winter such a bad rap these days, that I think it would be appropriate for me to look on the happy side of life and note a couple of things that I will actually miss about winter:
1. Hot Cocoa
2. Short Skirts
Yep, that about covers it! I will definitely be missing the short skirts, though. They never get any wear in the summer months. There's just some places I prefer to keep out of the breeze. Life is stressful enough without the constant fear of mooning innocent bystanders. And my legs are a little veiny, so ... moving on.
Now, you've all met Iggy and you know how much I love the little guy. I'm kind of a bleeding heart that way and pretty much love all animals (bugs don't count, right?). Like any love, it comes with a few exceptions. One of these exceptions? Random cats.
I know, I know. They're cute cuddly little creatures, yada, yada. But they really make me uneasy (come to think of it, this exception may apply to all cats I don't know). They always give me stink eye and I never know what they're thinking. I'm always afraid that I'm going to make the wrong move and they're going to pounce on me. We had a cat growing up that used to crouch at the bottom of the steps and scare the bejeezus out of me every morning. And I had a friend's cat randomly jump on me, claw into my thigh, and slide down my leg ... while I was ironing! I hate the anxiety of things jumping out at me. It's the same reason I don't like haunted houses or scary movies. And short skirts in summer.
Well, today, I came face to face with my fear:
Can you sense the palpable hesitation in my face. "Please don't jump on me. Please don't jump on me." It was way too early for this. Fortunately, this little kitty just rubbed up on my tripod then my leg. Then, it just stood there purring. And looking at me.
No worries, though. I escaped unscathed.
Shirt: Husband's - Belt: Mom's - Dress: clothing swap - Shoes: Target.com, $25 - Hat: Eddie Bauer, $27
Hmmm ... looks like I'm wearing everybody else's clothes today.
I like seeing other people wear shorts with stockings. Your style is neat and creative. Plus I took wear dress shirts with belts and shorts. =D
ReplyDeleteNon-cat owners sometimes don't know: when a cat squints at you, she's blowing you kisses. When people squint, it's usually the stink eye, but for cats it's kisses. Interesting, eh?
ReplyDeleteI always avoid shorter skirts in the warmer months, too, counterintuitive as it is. Something about the addition of tights and the bigger layers on top makes me feel decent, but take those away and I am completely unwilling to don a mini!
ReplyDeleteCats freak me out too! Every time I've been at a friends house who happens to have a cat, I get clawed in the face. In.the.face. So not cool. I also will miss skirts and shorts when it's no longer Winter, lord knows I wont be prancing around baring my white and out of shape legs during Summer!!
ReplyDeleteI wear short skirts less in the summer too, because I am so used to wearing tights with them that I feel a little over-exposed (and insecure?) without tights! I'll wear my tights well into spring (w/ shorts or minis), but it's usually too warm to go that route in summer.
ReplyDeletemmm, hot cocoa... definitely a winter-weather perk! :)
Aww poor kitty. I love cats, but once my friends cat decided to attack me at attach itself to my leg...with her teeth. She didn't like the way I walked by her or something. She died a year later, I wasn't sad.
ReplyDeleteha! those pictures are hilarious.
ReplyDeletei, too, love a short skirt in winter way way more than i love it in the summer. i'll definitely miss the skirts with tights phenom in the summer!
You look fabulous here! I love the military jaacket. I love the fur hat. And I do NOT like cats.

I feel the same way about dogs I don't know! Cats I am ok with. Of course the one exception is my friends PSYCHO cat. I am generally an animal lover also!

Love your fur hat and the way it sort of matches the random cat :) haha. Maybe that's why she came over to say hello!
ReplyDeleteI was always scared of cats too, until my boyfriend (the crazy cat loving man) talked me into getting not one, but two. Now they are like my children.
I still love pups though - I can't wait to move to a bigger house with a bigger backyard so I can have my own doggy!
Love your outfit btw, so rustic cool :)
I love your outfit! Very cute!
ReplyDeleteSome skirts are just meant to be worn with tights in the colder months and won't work in the summer.
ReplyDeleteYou are rocking this short skirt and looking good while doing it.
cute hat!! and i love the shirt :)

Kyla, I went shopping today and I saw some all black Steve Madden brogues and thought about you. Then I went to macy's and the Steve Madden store and saw your Tuxedo black/white brogues for 40 bucks:)
ReplyDeleteLOL at your distaste for kitties... haha I love them... :) Anywho, love this outfit! It rocks!
ReplyDeleteOh I understand your feels on cats. They make me uneasy too. Except ones that I know and love of course!
ReplyDeleteLovely outfit. I love the hat though. It really completes the look though.
ReplyDeleteha! i love you for the cat thing. seriously.
ReplyDeleteyou totally rock the short skirts/tights thing too :) yay! xx
I so need to do this with a shirt - ASAP!! You are looking super cute!
ReplyDeleteOh no! You don't love the kitty cats? She just wanted to come over and tell you that you looked very pretty and wintery chic. That's all...
ReplyDeleteHere kitty, kitty. Love the hat....purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
ReplyDeleteI too was petrified of random cats until the summer after I'd finished college. My neighbors had a kitten that loved to "visit" with me while I had my morning coffee. The little guy'd just pop out of the bushes every day, purr a lot and then lean his little head on my lap. It was too endearing for me to stay creeped out. (Now I have a cat & she's obsessed with the camera shutter clicking - maybe that's what attracted your new friend).
ReplyDeletegreat hat! My hubby has one; I'm gonna have to use it in some pics soon :) You look great!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you survived the cat encounter. I'm definitely NOT a cat person.
ReplyDeleteI know I've said this before, but I adore that hat. Not too many can pull it off like you can!
I'm totally with you on the whole short skirt thing. And I adore this look, and the snow photos!
ReplyDeletecute outfit!military style shirts are so versatile.
