GIRL ABOUT TOWN

10-6-09 1

It was a very busy, yet fun day today.  I worked 4 different jobs, which I think is fantastic!  I'm not one for monotony.

10-6-09 2

The worst part is that one gig was in the hospital for about an hour.  Man, I HATE hospitals and I REALLY HATE them during flu season in a college town.  I seriously wanted to be Bubble Girl today.  But, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't go with my outfit.

10-6-09 3

Last time I was to the hospital was last summer when my husband had surgery on his nose.  I went to see him in the recovery room and got so light-headed and nauseous that the nurses had to put me in a wheelchair and then into my own bed in the next curtain.  Then, I was force fed juice and crackers.  As if that wasn't humiliating enough, I accidentally set off the car alarm while the nurse was helping him into the car (she was trying to keep me away from him, so I wouldn't get sick again).  Then, I got home and realized that I never returned the pager that they give to people who are waiting for patients in surgery.  It was horrible!  And my poor, poor husband...

Anyway, it's just really not my scene.  The only saving grace today was the completely random stranger who complimented my boots :)

But, I made it through and lived to tell you about my outfit.  Mmm...another favorite fall combo already...  I may have to give up blogging for a couple of weeks, so I can repeat some recent outfits.

DRESSING DAZE

10-5-09 1

I'm so in love with this outfit, I could die!  The funny thing is that I have no idea where it came from!

10-5-09 2

Usually, my daily wears have some sort of forethought behind them.  Some flicker of inspiration that gets me from point A to point B.  This morning, there was none of that.

10-5-09 3

I tried the socks on with the boots just to see what they would look like and then I spaced out for a minute and when I came to, this is what I saw in the mirror.  It was like an outer body dressing experience.  So strange, but well played, if I do say so myself.

10-5-09 4

It was my very first full day off (until the evening, that is) in over a MONTH!  I so needed a day to myself.  No appointments.  No errands.  Just Iggy, me, the park and my camera.  Banner day indeed.

THE WEARDROBE DRESS: WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Major thanks to Modcloth for this super cute LBD, aptly named The Weardrobe Dress.
I'm sure you've seen a couple of the other NYC Conference bloggers styling up their dresses and here's mine:

I realize my photo quality is not so hot, but this was not exactly something I was willing to traipse around the neighborhood in while taking pictures of myself.  Not that it's not totally cute, it's just that it's 1 o'clock in the afternoon on a Monday in central Pennsylvania.

Anyway, I digress ... this is how I styled mine -  how would you style yours?

Vintage brooch from Marnie's jewelry - Dress: Courtesy of Modcloth - Tights: Target, $3 - Shoes: Payless, $20 (years ago)

I decided to take a vintage spin on it, but still keeping it simple.  I added a vintage brooch for just a little glitz and patterned tights.  I'm usually terrified of patterned tights, but I actually surprised myself when I pulled these on.  I love the way they look with the black dress and pop of of the white shoes.  I have to be honest, though - the dress is quite a bit snug on me, so I ended up taking the hem up a couple of inches.  It's such a cute design, but just not enough fabric to handle all the cargo on the lower deck, if you know what I mean.

Sooooo ... how would you wear this LBD?

WHY I WAS LATE FOR DINNER

I was VERY excited to meet up with a wonderful girl who was back in town for the night.  I had a NON-stop day of jobs and meetings and was, as per usual, flying around like a crazy lady.

In an attempt to get five minutes of sit-down time before dinner, I caught up on some blogs and changed into something a little more night-time fun.  You know, something I would never have the brass to wear in the daylight.  And of course, because I changed, I just HAD to get a couple outfit shots.

It's not exactly pushing outside the box with it's creativity, but I'm kind of a sucker for simplicity.  And not much more than a week after swearing off heels, I decided to be a rebel for a couple of hours, mainly because I knew I would be doing very little walking and a LOT of sitting.

10-2-09 3

I'm so in love with this blazer these days.  It's so comfortable and adds just enough structure to leggings and an over-sized tee.  While in NYC for the Weardrobe Conference, we went to Buffalo Exchange where they so graciously gave us each a tote bag with a BE American Apparel Deep V tee in each one.  I am in LOVE with this tee!  If you've read my blog for a while, you know my fondness for the AA Deep V.  And this one's 2 sizes bigger than I normally get, which makes it so soft, comfy, and drapey.  Love.  Love.  Love.

In an attempt to make it a little more night life, I added the heels.  These were also free from the Weardrobe Conference thanks to Lela Rose for Payless.  They're not exactly everyday shoes (I'm not gonna lie, they're a little high), but they're really pretty to look at and that's enough to earn them a couple of wears a year.  Plus, I love the electirc, almost purple, blue.  And because it was cold and rainy, I decided to go all out ridiculous and tucked my pants into the shoes.  When most girls in town are tucking their leggings into UGGS, I think I'm okay.

Or should I be thankful that my bottom half remained under a table all night?

FALL LIKE THIS

Now, yesterday was type of fall day I can get on board with.  It. Was. Gorgeous!  Sunny and crisp with just enough warmth from the sun to take the edge off of the cool air.  AND there was no extra outerwear required.  So, I decked myself out in head to knee black and punched it all up with those boots I love so much.

10-1-09 1

Mmm...I love this.  Can you just feel what kind of a day it was from these pictures?

10-01-09 3

Even Iggy knew it was a rare fall day that only comes a few times a year.  He did NOT want to go back inside after this lovely stroll.

Happy weekend, all!  Hope it's a good one!

LOOK WHAT I DID

After the crazy PacSun DIY session at the Weardrobe Conference, it was a free-for-all for the left over DIYing paraphanalia and I was jonesin' for some studs!

I feel in love with the studded Capezio dance shoes this season, but the $60 price tag was a little beyond my budget for a pair of glorified slippers.  So, once I became the owner of a bag full o'studs, my first thought was to DIY my own pair.

Behold:
flats before

I've had this pair of tweed flats from Target ($13ish) for a couple of years now.  They have actually held up pretty good, considering.

Anyway, I decided that could use a little update this year:
flats after

Aren't they awesome?  It was a simple, SIMPLE concept, though the execution was a little painful.  My finger may be a little sore tomorrow, but no pain, no gain...

ABSENT-MINDED BLOGGER

Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday.  I was super-psyched to share my outfit with you, but when I went to take photos, I realized I had forgotten to charge my camera batteries.  Oopsie!  No worries, I will just repeat the look soon and share it with you then.

In other news, have you seen this AMAZING bag that I won from Carmen & Ginger's etsy shop and Eyeliah at Style Symmetry???  I cannot WAIT to get my hands on this beauty.  Woot!  Woot!

ALSO, I'm joining the world of mobile productivity and ordered myself a laptop last night!  I'm soooooo excited!  This will make my severe tendancy to multi-task actually pay off.  Now, I can be a coffee shop regular, too!  Hehe!

Stay tuned - more to come later!
