LONG DAY, SHORT PANTS

2-3-10 1

Well, I finally got Lady Gaga last night.  I was completely exhausted and ready for bed at 9:30, but instead, I decided to make a couple of iTunes purchases.  Then, I just HAD to listen to them, which turned into a very long closet session and one late night sewing project.

I got these wool (former) pants at Goodwill the other day for 30 cents with the intention of making them into shorts.  Last night, in a moment of delirium, I went at it.  I used not one single measuring device for this project.  Thank goodness for glen plaid!

I wasn't sure about them at first, but once combined with the colorful tights and jacket, I was sold.  Especially with the pops of black patent accessories.  I got a ton of compliments on it, too!  And though I only dress for myself, it's sometimes nice to know that others notice.

Have you ever ironed wool?  It kind of stinks.  It doesn't help that I iron like I cook - on high, as fast as I can, and pray that I don't set off the smoke detector.

A couple of years ago, I was making a birthday dress and literally burned a hole right in the center of it.  It was completely ruined!  But, like everything in life, things happen for a reason, and the second version of the dress turned out way better!

  4. I always seem to end up sewing at the strangest times too! Some of the best work comes out that way me thinks. Case in point. These shorts are fantastic.

  6. I've had it in my head that I would like some longer "winter" shorts and it never crossed my mind to just hem my own. Talk about a "Duh!!!" moment.

  7. I love it! I totally iron like that too. I once ironed a shirt and burned it so badly it tore into shreds. I called my mom crying because it was my favorite shirt.

  9. This has given me a great idea of what I can do to a pair of wool pants I own that just don't fit or look right on me as pants.

    Inspiring!

  14. i don't iron. i was a bridesmaid for my old best friend and while i was showering my husband offered to iron my dress. I heard an "oh shit" from the other room. The hotel iron had broken and the iron fell onto the fake velvet the dress was made of and made a horseshoe style print on the dress. pointing towards my crotch. the wedding photos are priceless.

also, you are adorable. if we lived in the same town, we'd totally be friends.

Wool smells a lot when it gets ironed but not as much as when it gets wet! YUCK!!

  28. The shorts are great!

Yes, wool is stinky when ironed. It smells like hot, wet sheep. ;)
